Nigerian renowned author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has added yet another feather to her cap after she was awarded an honorary degree.

The Americanah author recently received the honorary degree during the 2018 commencement ceremony of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, USA. Sometime in March, President Vincent E. Price of Duke University confirmed that the Americanah author is on the list of recipients. She took to her Facebook page to share photos of the decorating ceremony, looking excited as she was awarded the degree.

She received the award alongside Mary Barra, Chairman of General Motors; Phil Freelon, lead architect for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture; former Durham Mayor William Bell; Dr. William Kaelin, professor of medicine at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; and Russell M. Robinson II, attorney, community leader and philanthropist.

The Purple Hibiscus recently talked about motherhood, how it affected her writing career and how she feels sorry for men because they can’t have the experience of giving birth. “My baby happened, and it’s important to talk honestly about this, because having her changed a lot. Having a child gets in the way of writing. It does. You can’t own your time the way you used to. But the other thing that motherhood does — and I kind of feel sorry for men that they can’t have this — is open up a new emotional plane that can feed your art. I said to myself, I have nephews and nieces who I adore, and I helped raise them, so those will be my children. That’s what I thought for a long time, because I felt that I couldn’t be true to both my art and my child

Recall a while ago, she had sparked a debate on social media after her interview with American TV host, Trevor Noah went viral. She spoke about chivalry and how women are treated in crises situation.
